19/3/15
A perfect day, the sun shone from the start and apart from a little haze over the hills to the north there was not a cloud in sight.
The A487 on the south side of the Dyfi estuary was quiet and there were bits of cycle way as we approached Machynlleth.
The Chimes cafe under the clock tower, made from Tremadog stone in 1874, was ideal for morning coffee before entering Snowdonia National Park as we crossed the river.
We soon left the quieter A493 on the north side of the estuary and launched up Cwm Maethlon or "Happy Valley". This was a long but beautiful climb. It gained gradual height into rugged hill farm land familiar to North Wales and had a 1:5 sting in the tail.
The decent was equally nice, especially as it opened out to reveal the sea and our finish point for the day. We stayed at Arthur Guest House right on the front and had a large fish and chips in town.
Figures:
Distance:- 44 km
Cycle Time:- 3 hours 23 minutes
Average speed:- 12.9 kph
Total Distance:- 691 km
