A chilli start but sunshine prevailed all day. The main road out of Aberaeron was a bit stressful but the cycle way into Aberystwyth was fantastic, it sweeps around Pendinas hill where the prominent Wellington monument stands and is the site of an Iron Age hill fort. The NCN 81 brought us in to the castle and spectacular college buildings on the city's front.
The climb out of town was less enjoyable but soon left main road for a quieter route which up and down eventually left us with a fine view of Borth. A linear faded sea side town with the quirk (according to John the YHA manager and owner) of having a zoo with lions but no where to get your hair cut!
If the tides had been in our favour we would also have caught a glimpse of 4000 year old petrified forest remains on the beach just outside the hostel.
An evening meal of soup, muffins and chese in the self catering kitchen at Borth YHA helped to balance the budget after the excesses at Aberaeron.
