Portpatrick

20/4/15
We left Sandhead in a cool airstream and with the sun warming the day.
A short detour to Logan Botanical Gardens where everything was poised for the growing season. Tree Ferns, Gunera and Magnolia were all enjoying the warm weather.

We stopped off to see the ancient Kirkmadrine Stones which are now displayed behind a glass wall in a church. Thought to date back to the 6th century AD, they are amoungst the oldest and most important early Christian memorial stones in Britain.

The road north to Portpatrick was quite undulating over green hills and our first proper glimpses of the west coast. Portpatrick was bathed in sun and a popular stop for those walking the Southern Uplands Way.
