Mull of Galloway

19/4/15
Released from the shackles of heavy baggage, we raced south on a light northerly. This was all after a leisurely breakfast and a brief visit to Woodlea Tea room to say hello to our friend Claire's  Auntie Margret and cousin Craig.

Converted from the old school house, it is a light and lovely place to stop and have tea and cakes.
The road to the Mull was undulating but quiet with an unfolding view of the lighthouse and panarama of the Isle of Mann, North Wales and Antrim hills was amazing.

We reached the most southerly tip of Scotland and had a brief chat with the RSPB staff about the plight of sand eels and the resulting impact on sea birds.
The lighthouse visitors centre was packed with info about this Stevenson structure and the engines that once powered the foghorn.

We climbed the 115 steps to the lamp room to get the full view of the surrounding sea.

The tea room is very well disguised (featured in 52 Days by the Sea) with a turfed roof and equally good views. We stopped for soup and tea.

We returned to our sea view room at Sandhead and had another great (early bird) meal in Tigh Na Mara.

Figures:
Distance:- 46.3 km
Cycle Time:- 2 hours  54 minutes
Average speed:- 15.9 kph
