Kirkcolm

22/4/15
Leaving Portpatrick marked a change in direction to north after several days moving west from Gretna and the Solway estuary.
Climbing out of town, we passed a milestone proclaiming 415 miles to London. This is barely a week's cycling for a fast road bike but I wouldn't trade our pace and experiences up the coast for anything.
As we saw the Southern Upland Way path leave the west coast and head east, we continued north and the Rhins of Galloway took on a different feel, more open farmland amoungst rolling hills.

A lofty road up the west coast took us to not one but two lighthouses, proof that Sue will go to the ends of the earth to seek out these buildings!

Another slight detour took us to a secluded Lachnaw castle in an area ravaged by rhododendrons but a haven for anglers.

We had soup and tea in the Corsewall lighthouse on the far north of the Rhins before heading across to Kirkcolm for our last night on the Rhins. The snug restaurant was empty and with just the sound of the P&O ferry from Ireland passing the window.

Figures:
Distance:- 39.6 km
Cycle Time:- 3 hours 9 minutes
Average speed:- 12.5 kph
Total Distance:- 1829 km
