Gatehouse of Fleet

16/4/15

With a high pressure of 1026mb centred on Shetland it is an ideal time to be in Scotland. The road out of Kirkcudbright was beautiful. A road where the land meets the sea- there is no other place I would rather be!

We branched off for a brief stop in Brighouse Bay where a family enjoyed a sun soaked beach to themselves and a man I had met 2 days before in a bike shop appeared in a van with some young offenders in his charge, to do some beach cleaning.

The roads were so quiet that it came as a bit of a suprise when we turned in to Finlay's cream o' Galloway at Rainton, it seemed that the entire population of Dumfries and Galloway were there with their under tens. The farm is a fine example of diversification. Not only do they make great ice cream but have produced an adventure playground, picnic site, walks and rides for all ages and abilitities and offer tractor treks and cuddle a lamb sessions!

We had a snack and ice creams and then pressed on to Gatehouse via the excellent NCN7 through Cally Park forest.

We arrived into another attractive Scottish town, too early for our B&B so we had coffee and cake in the sun on the riverside terrace of the old Mill on the Fleet before checking in to Bobbin Guest House.

Evening meal was in the Masonic Arms which served excellent food
