Ullapool

14/5/15
A leisurely freewheel into Ullapool in the sunshine followed by coffee in the Ceilidh Place. The town may actually beat Tobermory for it's picturesque setting.

Altnaharra Inn is so tantalisingly close across Loch Broom from Ullapool and it is a shame that Gunn Erikson packed up her restaurant there, I have been waiting until I was wealthy enough to go and stay and eat there and it would have saved a day's cycling- spot the road we would have decended!

Ullapool has not changed much in 30 years but the town was noticeably quiet due to the construction of a new Stornaway ferry terminal. They have temporarily moved all vehicle ferrying from Lewis to Uig on Skye- that explains why there was so much traffic on the road to the Kyle of Lochalsh in Skye when we were there.

We spent the day wandering around Ullapool in a Mediterranean climate and in the evening we went back to the Ceilidh Place for a meal and to see some music. A fiddle from Shetland and harp from Dundee. The music was as captivating as our scenery over the last few weeks.
