Ardnamurchan is the most westerly point in mainland Britain so is a key compass point in our journey. The Whalebone Bothy is a good place to spend our first pause and, of course, visit the lighthouse.
We set out in sunshine on the perfect single track road that winds it's way to the tip of the peninsula.
The most westerly traffic lights and probably essential in high season with large motor homes visiting,
The lighthouse is built with pink granite from Mull and, unlike most of it's white neighbours is left with it's natural colour. It is unique in the UK as it is built in an Egyptian style by Alan Stevenson.
The lighthouse keepers cottages are now a tea shop which, of course was very welcome as the wind was against us on the return journey.
