Stromeferry

6/5/15
The forecast for today had been gusts of gale force winds and there was a hint of ferry disruption, so we decided to get up early to catch the 7:50am from Mallaig to Skye.
This was our last Cal Mac ferry for now and marked the end of our sneaky manoeuvre up the west coast using Arran, Mull and Skye. Our route is worthy of a Sustrans route and I propose it to be called NCN zero on the basis that it should be the first on everyone's list!

Things changed over night and there were no strong winds and, thankfully very little rain.
The quiet shoreline road from Armadale took us to the first of our climbs over to Sculamus where the more busy A87 leads to the Skye bridge and Kyle of Lochalsh.

We stopped in Hector's Bothy cafe for soup and tea before setting off on the Plockton road. This was beautiful but had a few stiff climbs.

We arrived at the Stationmaster's Hostel at Stromeferry, Ewan had the wood burner on and it was very cosy. We shared the hostel with Robert from Glasgow, he was setting up a dairy business and was up on a butter making course. He was of a "better together" persuasion and lamented the demise of the Scottish Labour Party.

Figures:
Distance:-  54.5 km
Cycle Time:- 4 hours 7 minutes
Average speed:- 13.2 kph
Total Distance:- 2332 km
