Lochinver

15/5/15
As I was loading the bikes this morning, a New Zealander stopped and said wind for you or against this morning? I explained that we were heading north, wise man he added.
We left Ullapool with a grey sky but as we climbed the hill to Ardmair we had a cheery wave from Linda and Brian taking their Munch Box to work.

The road out was a little busy but the emerging view of Stac Pollaidh and Coigach ahead and An Tealach far behind us were very exciting.

The Summer Isles road remains, in my mind, the most beautiful route for cycling in Britain. It was with some horror to hear on Landward, the Scottish equivalent of Countryfile, the announcement of a 500 mile driving circuit from Inverness around the North coast of Scotland. The purpose is to boost tourism in the area, I hope it does not become a race track.

The dull sky did not detract too much from the views and a strong tail wind helped. The rain started as we left Ross and Cromarty for Sutherland but we stumbled upon Achin coffee shop so we sheltered until it passed.
Lochinver school has an impressive location with views of Suiven, a school bus passed us on our journey around Stac Pollaidh- what a route to school!

We booked in to Culag Hotel in Lochinver, a faded castle-like place with a welcoming host. Peet's Restaurant next door was modern with very good food and we had the early bird menu - of course!

Figures:
Distance:- 49.1 km
Cycle Time:-  3 hours 50 minutes
Average speed:- 12.8 kph
Total Distance:- 2585 km
