Kinlochewe

8/5/15
By the time we woke the election results for Scotland had been established. We went out to a clear blue sky and the sun shone as brightly as the SNP's signature yellow that now covers the country.
The day was short so our challenge was to see how slowly we could go up Glen Torridon. After a brief visit to a bird hide and deer park, we ambled up the very easy gradient and stopped at every opportunity to look at Cuckoos and mountain views.

This glen marks the birth of my mountaineering experience over 25 years ago and we passed winter camp sites I remember using with the Croydon Mountaineering Club in the 1990's

The changing face of Liathach - the grey one with its horizontal bands of Torridonion sandstone brings back vivid memories of great days out on the mountain.

We arrived at the Whistle Stop cafe on the edge of Kinlochewe and the inevitable opportunity for soup and tea was taken.
We stayed in a chilly but cheap bunkhouse attached to the hotel which provided a good meal in the evening.
