There are times when I sense how vulnerable we are, we plan ahead about a week or more so whatever the weather we need to make our next destination. The surprising number of other tourists coupled with a limited number of places to stay mean our booking schedule is pretty essential. Camp sites seem to have declined in number but there are now many more bunkhouses and independent hostels which are providing us with a warm place to sleep each night.
We waited for the last of the showers to pass before heading east from our little bothy. The first climb was onto typical wild Scottish moorland and views across the north shore of Ardnamurchan towards the island of Eigg. We then decended to a beautiful road along Loch Sunart and on to a natural history visitors centre complete with tea shop!
It was a tough day with many big climbs but the occasional sun and tail wind helped us on our way and the view into the Moidart hills was fine.
Glenuig is set on a calm bay and clearly an ideal place to sea kayak from. We had a comfortable bed in a 9 bed bunkhouse which we shared with a couple from the Czech Republic. They were out for 8 weeks sea kayaking and had kayaked the coast some years ago.
We had good seafood in the restaurant, before our evening stroll and watched the Heron and a Great Northern Diver.
