Pennan

4/6/15
We continued on the NCN 1 until the twin towns of Banff and Macduff and just managed to find a tea shop in the latter.
A rather hilly day with a head wind made it more of a challenge. We made the final decent to Pennan and checked in to the Inn made famous by the film Local Hero.  I have been waiting to stumble on this location for 30 years as the film was part of my inspiration for cycling through Scotland. The Inn was left empty for over 2 years until a young couple, Peter and Niki (from Thailand) took it on  six years ago and have made a very comfortable place to stay with great food.

The small group of houses has used every available space in this small cove and most are curiously arranged with their gable ends facing the sea.

Figures:
Distance:- 43.2 km
Cycle Time:- 3 hours 33 minutes
Average speed:- 12.1 kph
Total Distance:- 3317 km
