While controversy over Wiggins' hour record rumbles on, I can proudly announce that Sue and I smashed his record today. We seem to have exceeded his distance by a whopping 1.264km but Bradley need not fear as we did this in 4 hours and 6 minutes so were slightly timed out!
Anyway, here in the Costa del Fife, temperatures continued to rise and arms became sore. We should probably start using sun cream.
The first stress of the day for Sue was to cross the 2.25km of Tay road bridge. A wonderful cycle track took us from Broughty Ferry to the heart of Dundee. We then experienced a first as we pushed the bikes into a lift and popped out onto the central reservation between roaring traffic. This aspect helped to shield Sue from the height so she confidently rode the entire span.
More good cycle track took us through the Tentismuir forest where a man had set up his snack van selling tasty sweet and savoury crepes. This made an opportune stop before we continued to St Andrews. Construction for the 2015 Open next month was in full swing and the town was heaving.
We escaped to the old harbour for a snack and continued on rather busy roads to Anstruther. With no Sustrans routes on the Neuk we opted for the B9131 across the peninsula rather than the coastal A917. The views as we crossed were great with the Isle of May and Bass Rock gradually revealing themselves.
We checked in to our B&B in a quiet corner of town with perfect sea view and complementary dram and tablet. I was in heaven, Sue had a cup of tea and some chocolate- this was all after we paid a visit to Anstruther Fish Bar which is keen to encourage good diet points out that a fish supper contains a bit over half the calories of a big mac and half the fat of a donner kebab.
Figures:
Distance:- 55.8 km
Cycle Time:- 4 hours 6 minutes
Average speed:- 13.6 kph
Total Distance:- 3600 km
