Seaford

16/7/15
The promenade out of Hastings was a delight and it took us all the way to Bexhill where we encountered another Sustrans portrait bench. Among the local heros was Spike Milligan, who was stationed here in the war. He referred to the town as the only cemetery above ground! It has been regarded as second rate compared to Hastings but with no amusement arcades or fish and chip shops cluttering the front it is more akin to posh Frinton in Essex.

The route across the Pevensey Levels was perfect and made a nice change from travelling next to long shingle beaches. With an easterly tailwind we whisked along and only stopped at a farm shop because the fabulous aroma of fresh baked items enticed us in.
Soon the South Downs started to appear but we were saved from climbing by following the low-lying Cuckmere River valley to Alfriston.

More clever tracks kept us away from the main roads to Seaford where we were greeted by great views of the the town's mini version of Beachy Head.
